I first met the AMBEO VR Mic and the AMBEO technology in 2017 on a Sennheiser seminar at Vienna where I’ve been invited by Audiopartner’s recommendation. One of the seminar’s main subjects was the present and the future of Virtual Reality via these technologies. I had this idea on the train trip back home to make a VR series following MTV Unplugged or MR2 Akusztik (acoustic concert series of one of the Hungarian national radio channels) to bring the intimate atmosphere of a rehearsal room or a small acoustic gig closer to people with the possibilities of a VR camera and an audio mixed in ambisonics. An atmosphere you barely capture with a standard stereo recording.

Using the Sennheiser AMBEO VR Mic by itself with the right seating of the musicians/ sound sources, you can capture a pretty good sounding, balanced and well detailed recording. Adding extra spot microphones and using the AMBEO VR Mic as a global room enable you to deliver a final mix which is so detailed and real like never before. It’s almost touchable.

Aside of my thoughts on the great possibilities of Virtual Reality in the commercial business and nature films, I still think that the most exciting and interesting thing for me is delivering this kind of audiovisual experience of music to people. This made the whole preconception of the project to record musicians and/or genres who have a kind of certain intimacy.

To get this feel out of the visual product I decided to use Akvárium Klub’s lately redesigned room VOLT LOKÁL and the main concert hall. Basically, we had everything within reach to create AMBEO 360 @ Akvárium Klub.
